St. Croix This Week / Shopping
When shopping on St. Croix, US citizens can enjoy a Duty-Free allowance of $1600.00 per person, including children, every 30 days whether buying to pack or mail. A small percentage is added on for purchases over that amount. When returning to the US you will be required to fill out a separate customs form for these items. You may be asked to show your receipts so it is important to keep a good record of what you buy. This duty-free allowance is double the $800 limit from other islands, so make your important purchases on St. Croix. You may also take 5 cartons of cigarettes and 6 bottles of liquor back as long as one of the bottles is a product made in the Virgin Islands such as Cruzan Rum. Outside this allowance you can mail gifts to friends and relatives (not including tobacco and alcohol)--one package a day to the same address up to $100.00 in value with no declaration.
 Shopping in downtown Christiansted, a National Historic Site, takes you down five quaint streets. Look for fine jewelry, watches, china, art, books, leather goods, home furnishings, perfume and cosmetics, toys, fashions for the whole family, liquor, and wonderful St. Croix souvenirs. Stores are normally open from 10-5pm Monday through Saturday in season and shorter hours during the summer and fall. Downtown events, "First Fridays" and "Jump Up" extend the hours for shopping until 8 or 10pm (check the Events Calendar for dates). Parking lots available near the Fort and on the corner of Strand and King Cross Streets.
Just East of Christiansted, this is a destination unto itself. Lots of good parking allows you to shop for women's clothes and accessories, wonderful books, games, gifts, antiques and collectibles--mementos of St. Croix.
Museum shops are fascinating places! Sometimes, you find your best gifts here like botanically-themed art and books, arts and crafts of St. Croix, local music, mahogany, jewelry, prints, and tiles. Also try Northside Road for authentic Caribbean arts and crafts plus a gallery of home and garden accessories.
Our Cruise Ship Port, welcomes you with a brand-new waterfront complete with gardens, benches, and walkways. Park in designated areas along the Strand and walk, shop, and eat on streets lined with Victorian architecture. The Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts is your source for local artwork, art calendars, and jewelry.

Local farmer Luca Gasperi and family grow a great diversity of high quality salads, tomatoes, vegetables, herbs and fruits in small interplanted gardens on the South Shore. Now in their 4th season on the South Shore (14th year farming organically on St. Croix), ARTfarm is known for sweet local tomatoes in the winter months and pineapples in the summer, and local restaurant chefs prize their microgreens and edible flowers. Luca is always experimenting with new crops and the shady farmstand sits near several of the gardens and a tiny art gallery.
