St. Croix This Week / Shopping
When shopping on St. Croix, US citizens can enjoy a Duty-Free allowance of $1600.00 per person, including children, every 30 days whether buying to pack or mail. A small percentage is added on for purchases over that amount. When returning to the US you will be required to fill out a separate customs form for these items. You may be asked to show your receipts so it is important to keep a good record of what you buy. This duty-free allowance is double the $800 limit from other islands, so make your important purchases on St. Croix. You may also take 5 cartons of cigarettes and 6 bottles of liquor back as long as one of the bottles is a product made in the Virgin Islands such as Cruzan Rum. Outside this allowance you can mail gifts to friends and relatives (not including tobacco and alcohol)--one package a day to the same address up to $100.00 in value with no declaration.
 Shopping in downtown Christiansted, a National Historic Site, takes you down five quaint streets. Look for fine jewelry, watches, china, art, books, leather goods, home furnishings, perfume and cosmetics, toys, fashions for the whole family, liquor, and wonderful St. Croix souvenirs. Stores are normally open from 10-5pm Monday through Saturday in season and shorter hours during the summer and fall. Downtown events, "First Fridays" and "Jump Up" extend the hours for shopping until 8 or 10pm (check the Events Calendar for dates). Parking lots available near the Fort and on the corner of Strand and King Cross Streets.
Just East of town this is a destination unto itself. Lots of good parking allows you to shop for wonderful books, children's clothes and toys, antiques and collectibles, and hair care and grooming products.
Sunny Isle Shopping Center awaits you with a state-of-the-art pharmacy, and the finest brands of duty-free fragrances for men, women, and children. Also shop for cosmetics, jewelry, watches, writing instruments, and small leather accessories. Great parking! The Museum Store at the St. George Village Botanical Gardens will satisfy the gardener in you.
Our Cruise Ship Port, welcomes you with a brand-new waterfront complete with gardens, benches, and walkways. Park in designated areas along the Strand and walk, shop, and eat on streets lined with Victorian architecture. The Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts is your source for local artwork, art calendars, and jewelry.

Located in a large warehouse space in Peter's Rest, this is the working studio for sculptor Mike Walsh and is used for contemporary art exhibits as well as housing Mike's industrial metal fabrication shop. Don't be surprised by the sounds of metal being cut, drilled, bent and welded as you peruse fine art in the airy gallery space.
