Wine in the Virgin Islands

By Karylyn Parsons -- West Indies
Sitting here as Hurricane Earl passes by, I am thankful that it left us mostly unharmed. I began counting blessings and it occurred me that we have had much more pleasant visits especially as far as the wine community is concerned.
This year St Croix played host to the amazing Bo and Heidi Peterson Barrett. They are probably the most famous wine making couple in the world. He from Chateau Montelena and the subject of the movie Bottleshock, she of such cult wines as Screaming Eagle and Le Sirena.
And though they visit wine events around the world, they were enchanted on their visit here in April, for our St. Croix Food and Wine Experience, by the locals. They began their days by diving with local skilled (and friendly) divers and were treated each day by boating back accompanied by dolphins.
Both winemakers are helicopter pilots and were invited up by John to see the island from his favorite view - that is a bird's eye. You will see John flying over STX on most days , enjoying the beauty of our breathtaking island. So if you are visiting look up and wave when you see a green heli pass by!
We are home to some of the best restaurants anywhere on planet earth. We have received a dozen Wine Spectator awards. That is actually such an amazing accomplishment as there are less than 4,000 restaurants awarded in the entire world!
Visitors are welcome to join us at our local wine clubs that meet once a month. See Events Calendar for days and time.
In the meanwhile enjoy St. Croix, if you love wine you are in for a treat, because WE DO TOO! Even our beach bars have excellent wines to enjoy during your visit.
