Wine in the VI: Wente Vinyards and The Food Network

We are an island that is obsessed with The Food Network. It makes perfect sense living in a culinary paradise such as St. Croix where you can enjoy a gourmet experience from a beach bar, in the rain forest with a slow-down dinner, or at one of our many fine dining restaurants on island.

St. Croix is so passionate about food that we devote an entire week to celebrate it once a year in April at The St. Croix Food and Wine Experience. A week of elbowing up with famous chefs from around the corner and around the world tasting amazing dinners learning so much about farming, cooking and, of course, wine!

This month we are featuring a new wine that is a partnership between The Wente Family Vineyards and The Food Network - so exciting! The wines are called entwine and are being used to educate consumers about the benefits and beauty of pairing wine with your meals. What is not to like here?

The chardonnays, pinot grigios, merlots and cabernet sauvignons are all made by fifth-generation winemaker Karl Wente and they all have a little something added to them to make them sparkle like a touch of muscat in the pinot grigio to make it pop on your palette.

The wines will be showcased around island with different ideas for pairing your meals using indigenous ingredients. They also will be shown on The Food Networks Iron Chef America programs and in their magazines. It is an amazing effort to bring the magic of food and wine pairing to all!

You can follow entwine wines and Wente Vineyards on Facebook. There are many wonderful sites on Facebook that can help you learn more about wine every day. Some of our favorites are Benziger Family Winery ,The Bounty Hunter, The Wine Harlots, and Kevin Zraly. Cheers enjoy the entwine!

Love Wente and Benziger!
The dates for the 2012 St. Croix Food & Wine Experience are April 17-22, 2012. Learn more at stcroixfoodandwine.com

I am amazed that in this day and age especially after the craft beer
explosion in the United States since the mid 1990 that wine is treated as
the only beverage to pair food with. What an antiqueted idea. I am not
talking about the mass produced tasteless common pilsner but world class
award winning beers that go back not five generations but 1000 years. Wine
has about one thousand variety of grapes for wine making but beer has tens
of thousands of flavors to use. Plus beer is a recipe not dependent on
weather as wine is thus making beer a consistent product. I'll pair my
beers any place any time with wine.
