Savant: A Hip, Hot Christiansted Eatery

Savant-Title.jpg

Fresh, flavorful, and fantastically creative is what you'll find at Savant -- a hip, hot eatery located on Hospital Street in Christiansted.

Savant FeatureThe menu is a mix of Thai, Mexican, and Caribbean cuisines and more. Try authentic Thai Currys, Fajitas, Cassava Crusted Fish or our signature Grilled Calamari. We buy fresh fish daily--Wahoo, Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi) or Yellowfin Tuna-- depending on what's running right from the local fishermen. We also incorporate local produce from island farmers--spicey mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, edible flowers, and herbs all combine to create healthy, fresh and delectable dishes.

Covering all the bases, there are plenty of scrumptious meat dishes, too. Filet Mignon stuffed with Goat Cheese and Portobello Mushrooms, Molasses Baked New Zealand Rack of Lamb, and Maple Teriyaki Pork Tenderloin are among some of the favorites. Owner, Tom Miller, gives his chefs free reign to be as creative as they want and, because of that, Chef Eric Nielson and his team crank out zesty creative cuisine.

Set snug in a two-story bluehued building adorned with old Danish Brick, and adjacent to historic Fort Christiansvaern, Savant offers two unique dining situations. The front of the house is an air-conditioned, cozy New York-style room. Intimate and inviting, sophisticated and elegant, yet remaining artistic and fun. The Courtyard has a romantic, Old World feel with carved cement walls and candlelit niches. The Courtyard was created by Tom's wife, Kate Miller, who has a degree in sculpture as well as an extensive background in fabrication and film. The bar is backed by a 350-year-old aboveground cistern.

A special sail, off a 70' sailboat, was fabricated on a roller furling that slides sideways to protect from rain or rolled back to view the stars. It all comes together to create a setting unique and as inspired as Savan't cuisine.
