Salt River

Twenty years ago, Anchor Dive Center opened its doors at Salt River Marina. "I remember cleaning, painting, and building cabinets," recounts Laurie Dunton, owner. Prior to us, many companies occupied the tiny space, surrounded by all of its natural beauty, but none were as successful as Anchor Dive Center and, at that time, no one ever imagined just how significant Salt River would become!

Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve was created in 1992 as part of the National Park System. This 1,015-acre park is home to some of the largest remaining mangrove forests in the VI, as well as a coral reef and submarine canyon and is studied by researchers year-round.

Eight Dive Professionals make up the staff at Anchor Dive Center - 2 are professional photographers and 2 Marine Biologists. They welcome these researchers, providing support and resources, but mostly enjoy their daily visitors to St. Croix.

"We love what we do and our guests say it shows." With our unique location to the most requested dive sites on St. Croix -- the East and West Walls of Salt River -- it takes less than 5 minutes to take the plunge and these are just two of the 50 sites we visit! To insure a quality dive, catered to the needs of our guests, we provide a 6:1 diver-to-instructor ratio -- one reason Anchor Dive Center has been voted the Best Dive Operator in the VI on several occasions.

With our interest in both history and natural resources, we expanded to create the "Best Eco Tour" on St. Croix. Caribbean Adventure Tours was born -- the "Original Kayak Tour" -- featuring a spectacular award-winning guided kayak tour of this amazing area!

We're proud to extend a free kayak tour to all guests participating in a three-day or more dive package! The 2 1/2-hour daytime tour features historical and ecological info, Mangrove forests, Sunbathng Iguanas, pulsating Jellyfish, an unearthed Taino Ceremonial Ball Court and much, much more! The evening Moonlight Tour, in Bioluminescent Bay, will thrill you with glowing water that comes alive as you paddle the calm, protected waters! For more information, call 778-1522.
