Northside Valley Ecotourism

northside-valley-ecotourism.jpgThis sprawling six acre estate is the home to seven luxurious villas for rent. What makes this verdant property different from the rest on St. Croix? It's promotion of Ecotourism.

Ecotourism is the idea of teaching responsible travel and focuses on learning new ways to live on the planet. An integral part of ecotourism is the promotion of water conservation, energy efficiency and recycling. Ginger Brown Vaneerveer, Director of Northside Valley, is committed to offering a vacation that minimizes the impact of human habitation on the surrounding environment.

It's the perfect place for a large gathering such as a wedding or corporate retreat and can be a charming escape for a family who wants to experience this unique destination on St. Croix.

Hotel living is the farthest from your mind when you step foot on this estate as you are greeted with a home cooked meal consisting of organic and sustainable foods. Homemade bread, exotic fruits and salads are among the few things you can find here.

northside-valley-ecotourism-3.jpgLocated on the west end of St. Croix's north shore, this beautiful property is a few minutes from some of the most pristine beaches the island has to offer. Enjoy a famous Frederiksted sunset or take a walking tour of the property among the flourishing surroundings after a long day in the sun.

Sheperd's Hut, Northside's largest villa has both a covered deck and patio with approximately 3,000 square feet of inside living space. This is ideally suited for hosting small conferences or events.

The only two-story villa, appropriately named the Tree House, has approximately 1100 square feet of living space and 400 square feet of outdoor deck space. It's equipped with two large bedrooms, two bathrooms, a studio, a kitchenette and dining area.

Each villa was built using native materials and features high ceilings and wide windows providing needed shade and breeze. The lush landscaping affords guests to live comfortably without the use of air conditioning. Each cottage is equipped with gas stoves for cooking which reduces the need for electricity.

northside-valley-ecotourism-5.jpgAs you may or may not know, water is a precious resource to local islanders. That is why Northside Valley captures rainwater, a renewable resource, in large bins around the estate for use in the villas. In an effort to preserve even more resources, recycle and compost bins are provided in each villa. Outdoor showers are both a luxury to guests as well as the outside vegetation.

Primary destinations of ecotourism are where flora is the main appeal. The Lucienda Villa is surrounded by organic fruit trees such as cherries, papaya, oranges, coconuts and sugar apple. Mango trees are the most effective trees on our planet for removing carbon gasses from the atmosphere. Northside Valley now has a total of twelve mango trees working hard to clean the air. The estate also houses many other local trees and plants including lime and avocado trees and abundant bougainvillea.
