Galangal Restaurant

galangal-title.jpg

Galangal Restaurant, 17 Church Street, is located in the 1729 house in historic downtown Christiansted across from the fort. Its interior features original colonial Indonesian style woodwork, windows, doors and columns combined with Asian art. Exquisite lacquer on wood paintings of hill tribes in Vietnam, a royal lady and serene lake scenes are symbols of superb Asian craftsmanship and art. Thai Buddha carvings inside provide tranquility. Thai statues outside guarding the entrance against bad spirits. Terra-cotta Tomb Soldiers from China (copies) are watching the inside. All designed as a get away to some distant place to enjoy tantalizing food and good company.

Galangal specializes in authentic, exotic South East Asian cuisine, focusing mainly on Thai and a few selected dishes from Vietnam and some Asian fusion. All dishes are prepared with the finest and freshest ingredients available from local farmers, our own garden, or curry pastes from Nitia (the most famous curry store in Bangkok). Spices like cinnamon, monkey peppers and black cardamom from Vietnam, and peeled Indonesian Kluwak nuts, give our dishes it’s unique and authentic taste and flavors.

For food lovers not too keen on Asian fare the menu includes fresh local catch of the day like Mahi Mahi, Wahoo or Tuna. Our 1/2 roasted Duck specialty, a well sized Hereford steak, pork tenderloin and a pan seared double chicken breast are good options. Flown-in fresh mussels and fresh Salmon assure the freshest ingredients available (never frozen).

All dishes at Galangal are prepared to order bringing everything fresh to your table.
