Dan Metzger, Chris Richardson and Ted Bedwell are the proud new owners of Sand Castle on the Beach Hotel in Frederiksted.
Frequent guests, Chris and Ted had long dreamed of putting their personal touches on the landmark hotel. When the opportunity to acquire the property presented itself, they partnered with Dan Metzger to seal the deal.
Hailing from the Nashville area, the three have a diverse career history; Chris in salon ownership, Ted as a labor leader and senior flight attendant at American Airlines and Dan in hotel management. Together, they possess a wide range of talent and experience to bring to Sand Castle on the Beach Hotel.
Designed by renowned architect and Saint Croix resident John Randal McDonald (known for his love of mid-century Prairie style), the hotel has grown from the original structure to include stand-alone beach front villas, and private courtyard suites with pool and a restaurant.
The restaurant, hosted by Rita Browne, has recently welcomed new chef Shawn Riley, most recently from Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. Chef Riley’s formal training at L’Academie de Cuisine in Gaithersburg, Maryland, promises to bring exciting culinary delights to the Beach Side Café. Already, new entrees featuring fresh seafood, local produce and Caribbean influence, along with our house-made desserts are on the menu with more yet to come.
Additionally, the Beach Side Café has new bar manager Dylan Rhyder on board. A native of Palmerton, Pennsylvania, Dylan will oversee the expansion and relocation of our bar from the dining area to its new location at the water side of the restaurant. The move will provide easy access to the bar from the restaurant, as well as for guests enjoying our pool deck and beach.
